PJ - Opening the bar, Sunday afternoon in late July.

I chose this image for my first entry in the photo journal mostly because I have had some difficulty describing why I like it. For that reason I figured it would be a good reintroduction to critically discussing images.

In a lot of ways the image appears very busy and lacks a clearly isolated subject, but many other facets of it are very pleasing to look at. The up-turned bar stools lead the eye across the frame from the hat on the left to the girl on the right - who is being used for foreground framing. There is a sense of depth present as well and many leading horizontal and vertical lines which help the eye take in the all the color and smaller elements in a fashion that diminishes the feeling of visual chaos in the scene.
